Is a Stormtrooper helmet a piece of Art?
In Lucasfilm v Ainsworth (2011) The Courts had to decide whether a stormtrooper's helmet was a sculpture.
Mr Ainsworth designed the Stormtrooper's helmets for the Star Wars film. He decided to produce some of the Helmets for sale.
Lucasfilm tried to stop him by saying that the helmets were "sculptures" under the Copyright, Design and Patents Act 1988 and that they owned the copyright so any money he had made was theirs.
The UK Supreme Court held that they were not "Sculptures and Mr Ainsworth was free to continue to make and sell the helmets.
